About a 3 and a half minute read.
Some things never change.
That’s important. That’s very important.
Even when the changes we currently experience come so fast–in culture, relationship, technology, politics, world events, and “signs of the times”–the most important things never change.
We need to remember that.
And count on it. And commit ourselves to it.
Or more accurately, to Him.
Otherwise, it’s too easy to be afraid, too easy to become confused, too easy to lose direction, too easy to be anxious, too easy to lose hope, too easy to become judgmental, and too easy to lose confidence when we should be the most steadfast.
The one thing that never changes is God. For example, Jesus, the visible expression of the eternal Triune God, “is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
He is the same person in eternity past, as at Creation, and the Flood, and at Mt. Sinai, and in the Bethlehem manger, and on the Calvary cross, and at the Resurrection and Ascension, and at Pentecost, as He is in this very moment of upside-down-dizzy today . . . immutable, unchanging forever.
He is, I am. (Exodus 3:14; Mark 14:61-62)
He is eternal Word who is God, and was with God in the beginning, through whom all things were made that have been made. There is nothing that was made apart from him. From Him and through Him and to Him are all things. (John 1:1-2; Romans 11:36)
He is the First and the Last, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. (Revelation 1:8, 17; 22:13)
He is the Lion of Judah, the Root of David, and the Lamb of God. (John 1:29; Revelation 5:5-10)
In spite of all the saber rattling of this current age, in spite the evil one stalking and seeking victims to devour, in spite of the ruler of the kingdom of the air luring humanity to self-exalting rebellion, in spite of prevailing winds of sin-besotted culture and inverted and perverted sexual roles and values, in spite of the flash-fast spiraling of a society into deeper still delusion, confusion . . .
God does not change. And that is good.
How should we feel about that? What should we do about that?
Some things never change.
The Rock upon whom our house is built and upon whom our faith grounded has not and will not change.
This is the first in a series of short reflections about “some things never change.” Frankly, they are reflections that grow out of my own personal need to remember what is most important.
Maybe you are like me. Maybe you too need to remember that some things never change.
And that makes a tremendous difference. Especially in the peace department.
The night before the establishment was going to try to turn everything on its head, the One who never changes told His followers, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
This is the first post in a series on the theme of “some things never change.” We want to answer the questions: How should we feel about that? What should we do about that?
If you find this unchanging truth encouraging and helpful, please share it, pass on . . . Whatever it takes to get the good word out that . . .
Some things never change. That’s important. That’s very important.
Let’s Talk About It
Things seem to be changing so fast, especially when it comes to social, cultural, and spiritual values. How do you feel about that? What can Jesus-followers do about that?
What “never changes” things about God impact you the most? How does this affect your attitudes and actions?
What other reflection question do you think God would want us to consider?

Thank you for this reminder today, Steve! It seems sometimes complications in life and problems can overwhelm us to the point where we forget the unchangeableness of God and that our lives are “hidden with Christ in God” (Col. 3:3). I needed to be reminded of this today. Thank you for being the channel of blessing!
Thank you, Angela. I really like your reference to Colossians 3:3. A strength and encouragement to me–being hidden with Christ in God. Such a safe place to be! (Psalms 27:5-6, 31:19-20) And that elevates us right into the presence of God–where our full attention needs to be–rather than on the complications and distractions of life. “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:1-3). Thank you for your thoughtful input!
